How to Remove Mold from Drywall

How to remove mold from drywall

This is an interesting topic for a few reasons.

It’s pretty easy to clean mold off of a small area drywall topically. However, there is a chance that the mold has already sent out mycotoxins, and they are circulating through your home by means of your HVAC or air handler.

Step 1: Make sure to address any humility or water intrusion that caused the mold to grow in the first place. IE. Install and exhaust fan if you have mold growing on your bathroom walls.

Step 2: Use white vinegar, and NOT bleach to wet the surface thoroughly and let it sit for 5–15 minutes before attempting to wipe it up.

Step 3: Wiped up the the mold, and consider retreating the same spot and the surrounding area an additional time.

Step 4: Paint the area with Kilz primer, let it dry, and repaint with a color of your choice.

Congratulations, you have solved the the topical issue of mold growth! Be warned that mold left untreated, or not properly cleaned up, can lead to air potential quality issues.

Also, your should not attempt to clean a section of mold larger than a square foot by yourself. Attempting to clean a large patch of mold that has been left to grow for a long period of time can result in growth elsewhere in your home, and that can lead to respiratory issues.

Spores from mold are released from the mycelium of the growth when they are disturbed, so basic cleaning actions can sometimes exacerbate an air quality issue. This spreads mold around a home and it results in growth somewhere else.

There are old habits in several markets across the USA in which contractors and handymen cover up a mold issue rather than solving the growth issue. Often, mold will continue to come back. Sometimes when mold has been manually cleaned off of a surface, it will come back again. That is why it is important get a licensed mold remediator to solve your problem.
