Comparing Efficiency: HVAC Duct Cleaning vs Mold Masters Mold Fogging

Treating AC and ducting for mold

The quality of the air you breathe indoors is essential for your health, and it can easily be compromised. Homeowners who are concerned about their indoor air quality and their family's  breathing often turn to HVAC duct cleaners in order to ensure they get the cleanest air possible. Sadly duct cleaning is not the best option. There are a few key differences between HVAC duct cleaning and Mold Masters dry fogging process.

The Benefits of Mold Masters Fogging

Our dry fogging process treats mold growth in areas inaccessible to homeowners such as ducting, attics and crawl spaces. In today's article, we are going to focus on your ducting. Not only does our process protect these spaces from further damage caused by mold growth, but it also eliminates odors caused by mold in these areas while also killing any existing mold spores on contact. We would say about 9 out of 10 phones calls we get where a home owner is concerned about a fantom "musty" smell in their home, we know they are calling about mold in their HVAC.

The great thing about our whole home fog and HVAC treatment is that we use specialized equipment designed specifically for  treating and sanitizing your ducting with little down time.  It takes much less time than traditional methods used for treating hard-to-reach places in homes or buildings.

On top of using our fogging process, we recommend having your HVAC regularly serviced to ensure that your system will continue to run as efficiently as possible for years to come. When it comes to keeping your home’s air clean, one of the most important steps you can take is to ensure that your HVAC system is properly cleaned and maintained. Think of it, your AC is the lungs of your home, and it is crucial that it is running correctly. Doing so helps reduce airborne allergens that might otherwise leave you feeling uncomfortable or ill. In addition, having your HVAC serviced will remove dirt, dust, dead skin cells, pollen and other particles from the internal components of your air handler that could cause it to run efficiently.

The Cons of Using a Duct Cleaner Service

The chemical that we use is also organic, so it is safe to fog in to flex ducting to treat for mold. We strongly advise against using a contractor that uses a biocide or fungicide to fog flex ducting. Those chemicals are highly caustic, and will soak in to the ducting and slowly off gas and poison a home. We would much rather live with mold in our home vs those horrible chemicals poisoning us. There are currently no biocides registered with the EPA for use on fiberglass ducting. Always do you homework, and ask what a contractor is wanting to spray in to your system before allowing them to proceed.

There are two common ways to clean ducting. Manually with a brush or using negative pressure. Yet again, we advise against using either other those methods. For one, you cannot manually clean flex ducting. If one were to stick a brush or tool in to  flex ductings, they run the risk of penetrating the ducting and allowing hot attic air in to the home. Thus, causing mold.

Next is negative pressure. Basically they attached a blower on one end, and a vacuum on the other. By doing so they create negative pressure on the system. The down side to using this method is that it can put too much pressure on it and it can blow your ducting apart. Our flex ducting is basically held together is zip ties and a mastic, which is a resin that hardens over time. There is not enough strength there to hold everything together, and it can result in holes that will allow hot attic air into our homes again. Again, allowing for mold to grow.

Finally, duct cleaners are an unlicensed profession in the State of Florida. We know we wouldn't trust an unlicensed individual in our home with one of the most expensive and crucial piece of equipment for our home's air quality. Not too long ago we spoke with an individual in The Villages that was conned out of $700 by an individual who claimed to be a duct cleaner. Basically the person came in to their home, opened their cold air return, sprayed a can of Lysol in there, and left. Now we all know that is not how things should be done!

How They Compare

When comparing the two services side-by-side, there are a few notable differences worth considering. First of all, our service helps keep your home’s indoor air quality clean. By using Mold Masters dry fog it will ensure complete coverage of your home and ducting, since it reaches even the most difficult areas. While using traditional methods may cause more damage and allow heat, humidity, and mold in to your home. In addition, typical HVAC duct cleaning takes more time than Mold Master's fogging due to the necessity of accessing each component individually—a step taken out when utilizing our specialized equipment instead! Finally, knowing what type of service you need can save you money; getting an incorrect service done could end up costing you more in the long run if not done correctly the first time around!
