Mold Safety for Young Children

Children

Your home is supposed to be a safe place where you can hide away from the bad weather, stay cool in the hot summers, and to keep your safe. However, mold can be a sneaky fungus and it could be hiding in your home

Exposure to mold can cause symptoms when we breathe it in and the same goes for touching and eating it. Babies and young children tend to be a little more curious and get into things when we are not looking. They play on the floor, and toys can easily come in contact with spores.

Mold can be harmful to everyone but especially children. It can cause symptoms similar to a cold or seasonal allergies. A lot of the time we talk to parents with children with these symptoms, and they don’t know what is causing it. You can’t constantly keep an eye on them, and them coming in to contact with mold is easy. We live in Florida, and mold is everywhere.

As a parent it’s our goal to protect our children from all kinds of dangers. However, it’s not always easy to protect them from something you cannot see. One of the biggest tips we give our clients with young ones is, “A dust free home is a mold free home.” We recommend using a single use mop, like a Swiffer, dusting baseboards and window sills frequently, using a MERV 8-13 air filter in their air handlers, wiping down toys with a vinegar and water solution, and keeping the homes air cooler than 76º and less than 60% humidity.
