Before Professional Help Arrives

📸 Document the damage

  • Snap photos or videos of every visible mold area
  • Note musty smells, leaks, floods, or plumbing issues

🚰 Stop moisture (if safe)

  • Shut off water to leaking pipes or appliances
  • Cover roof damage with a tarp to block further intrusion

🚫 Don’t disturb the mold

  • No scrubbing, wiping, or vacuuming—this spreads spores
  • Do not use fans to dry things out—this also spreads spores
  • Keep kids, elderly, and anyone with an immunocompromised system or asthma/allergies away

Ask smart questions

  • Where will mold be removed or encapsulated?
  • What’s the timeline for mold removal and drying?
  • What materials will need to be replaced after the remediation? (IE. drywall, carpet, insulation)

🌬️ Ventilate as instructed

  • Fogging or antimicrobial treatments may leave a temporary odor, but be smart about opening doors or windows. You will invite mold back in!
  • Run your AC, ceiling fans, and dehumidifier to keep your air circulating.

💨 Control indoor humidity

  • Keep humidity below 50%
  • Use dehumidifiers, have your HVAC serviced to make sure it is running efficiently, and run bathroom exhaust fans
