How do you identify signs of grout failure?

There are several signs that can indicate grout failure in your bathroom. Here are some common things to look for:

  1. Mold growth on grout: Mold in your grout lines is a common sign of grout failure. If you see mold growing on your grout, it’s time to take action.
  2. Loose and wiggling tiles: Tiles should be firm and steadfast, so if you notice loose tiles, it’s a sign that you need to regrout your shower.
  3. Deterioration of grout: If your grout lines are deteriorating and no longer look whole, it’s a sign that your grout is failing.
  4. Stains that won’t come out: If your shower is looking old and dingy with embedded stains that just won’t come out, it may be time to regrout.
  5. Bathroom has a musty/mildew smell. When grout has been neglected for long enough, water can get behind the tile. Mold will begin to grow once building materials have been wet for more than 24 hours. That musty, dank smell is usually mold growing and snacking away on the cellulose materials inside your walls.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent further damage. It could be as simple of a fix as regrouting, or there could be a larger issue that could require mold remediation.
